Adam Peaty-Ramsay suggested his ongoing family rift is affecting his performance, stating he has felt "off" this week after missing out on a gold medal in the 50m breaststroke final at the Commonwealth Games. He finished in third place, securing another bronze medal.

Hours before the race, his mother, Caroline Peaty, posted on Facebook that she would "always support him from afar," asserting that she and her husband expect nothing in return from their Olympian son, with whom they are embroiled in a public dispute. This marks the first major competition where his parents have not been present poolside since their fallout.

Peaty-Ramsay admitted to struggling with "ups and downs" throughout his career, noting that the last two years have been challenging in regaining his speed. "I've felt 'off' this week and I don't know why," he said in a post-race interview. "We are trying new things."

He indicated that his estrangement from his family has taken a toll on his ability to secure gold medals. His mother, Caroline, in response to his comments, reiterated her support but stated she expects nothing from him. She wrote that their love and sacrifices were given freely with no expectation of financial reward, adding that she and her family have faced abuse from online trolls. Caroline also expressed concern that "something or someone is at play wanting to destroy our family completely," but affirmed their family's strength and mutual love.

This follows his third-place finish in the 100m breaststroke, where he alluded to his family feud contributing to his performance. While his wife, Holly, who is expecting their first child, has been a spectator, his parents have not attended. Caroline stated on Facebook that she has endured the situation for over eight months and pleaded to be left alone to "move on with our life and enjoy growing our family."

A relative, speaking anonymously, criticized Peaty-Ramsay's comments, suggesting he should take accountability for his actions rather than blaming his family. The source stated that the hurt he feels over a medal does not compare to the pain he has caused his mother, recounting instances of him allegedly stopping her from seeing her grandson and their family from attending his wedding.

The family conflict reportedly stems from 2024, when Peaty-Ramsay and Holly did not invite wider family members to their engagement party and wedding. Caroline was also reportedly not invited to Holly's hen party.

Peaty-Ramsay previously stated on Instagram that there are "two sides to every story" and emphasized the importance of showing emotion to build stronger individuals. He acknowledged that his choices over the past few months have been difficult but expressed pride in continuing after the Paris Olympics. He reflected on the rigorous training regimen and questioned its purpose if not for striving for excellence, which he felt was lacking in his recent performance. He also mentioned that the adjustment after a two-year break from championship racing might be a factor.

He later posted on Instagram, calling his bronze medal a "bittersweet moment" and acknowledging that not all stories are "filled with glory, victory and gold." He encouraged empathy, stating, "Love always wins."

Olympian cyclist Dame Laura Kenny commended Peaty-Ramsay for his emotional vulnerability in his interviews. In a heartfelt exchange, he admitted that becoming a parent has made him more emotional. He is expecting a daughter with Holly in December, and has a son, George, from a previous relationship.
