Adam Peaty has secured a place in the Commonwealth Games 100m breaststroke final, with his pregnant wife Holly Ramsay in attendance to support him. Peaty, competing under his newly adopted surname Ramsay-Peaty, won his heat and advanced through the semifinals, posting the fastest qualifying time of 59.46 seconds.
Commonwealth Games Performance
The race saw a brief delay when a lane rope detached, requiring an official to enter the pool. Despite the interruption, Peaty, a three-time Olympic champion, showcased his form, with only two rivals finishing under a minute in the heats. This marks Peaty's fourth Commonwealth Games, having won his first medals at the 19-year-old in Glasgow in 2014.
Peaty has described the current Games as a "full circle moment" as he aims to reignite his career. This comes after a challenging 2023, during which he withdrew from several events to focus on his mental health. A silver medal at the Paris Olympics in 2024 had previously helped him refocus. His dominance in the 100m event, which began with his 2014 win, saw an end four years ago in Birmingham when he finished fourth.
"Job done, really," Peaty told TNT Sports after his heat. "We've got a busy two weeks coming up, so we're reserving energy where we can. Last time I was here, I was very young. We barely had any world records to my name, or known world records to my name, so it's been a very long journey."
Personal Life and Family Estrangement
Pregation Holly Ramsay, 26, watched from the stands, displaying her baby bump. The couple announced last month they are expecting a baby girl. Holly shared a photo of Adam in his new 'Ramsay-Peaty' swimming cap on Instagram Stories, captioning it "So Special."
The adoption of the double-barrel surname Ramsay-Peaty for the Games follows his marriage to Holly, daughter of TV chef Gordon Ramsay, in December. However, his parents, Caroline and Mark, did not attend the wedding and are reportedly not attending the Commonwealth Games due to a falling out.
Adam remains estranged from his parents. Earlier in the month, it was reported that his sister, Bethany, with whom he had maintained contact, had also fallen out with Holly, leaving Adam in the middle of mediating. The family conflict reportedly stems from the couple not inviting wider members of the Peaty family to their engagement party in September 2024. Caroline Peaty was also reportedly not invited to Holly's hen do, while Holly's mother and friends were in attendance.
