Sportsbooks have made substantial adjustments to the Philadelphia 76ers' projected regular-season win total following the signing of LeBron James. FanDuel, for instance, raised the team's win total from 46.5 to 50.5 after the free agency move.

This adjustment places the 76ers in elite company within the Eastern Conference, as only the New York Knicks, with a win total of 51.5, are projected for more wins. Historically, James' teams have achieved 50 or more wins in 14 of his 23 seasons. In contrast, the 76ers have reached this benchmark in four seasons during the same period, most recently in the 2022-23 season when Joel Embiid was named league MVP.

Despite the significant increase in projected wins, oddsmakers are not entirely convinced the 76ers will dominate the league. Their odds to win 55 or more games are +280, which are longer than those for the Boston Celtics (+190) and only slightly better than the Detroit Pistons (+290). The 76ers' odds to secure the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference stand at +600, trailing the Celtics (+400) and slightly behind the Pistons (+650).

Factors contributing to this cautious outlook include James' age, entering the season at 42, Embiid's recent injury history with only 96 games played over the past three regular seasons, and the integration of Jaylen Brown into the starting lineup.
