San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was on the practice field for the second consecutive day on Monday, continuing his recovery from a severe car crash on July 14. Shanahan observed practice from a distance alongside general manager John Lynch, though a pair of deep passes briefly interrupted their observation, requiring them to move.

This appearance marks an encouraging step in Shanahan's recovery from multiple injuries, including a severe concussion, broken ribs, a broken nose, a broken hand, and facial injuries. He had previously attended about 30 minutes of practice on Sunday. During Monday's session, he arrived after the portion open to media cameras and wore sunglasses, with a soft cast on his left hand. Reports indicated that swelling in his face appeared to have subsided.

Assistant head coach and offensive line coach Chris Foerster has been handling head coaching duties. Witnesses described Foerster as energetic while leading his first full practice in the temporary role, with Shanahan observing nearby.

Linebacker Fred Warner expressed no surprise at Shanahan's swift return, noting his dedication. "I know he can’t stay away," Warner said. "That guy’s obsessed with ball, so of course he’s going to be around."

While there is no set timeline for Shanahan to resume full responsibilities, he is anticipated to be ready for the 49ers' Sept. 10 season opener against the Rams, which is scheduled to take place in Melbourne. His presence at practice, even with the unexpected on-field action, signifies progress in his recovery.
