San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Wednesday that the team explored acquiring former receiver Jauan Jennings via trade, but the player opted to stay with the Minnesota Vikings.

"We talked for a while," Shanahan said. "He FaceTimed me. ... It was a good talk. But he’s with good people, he likes where he’s at and I thought it made sense what he said."

Reports had circulated that Jennings was not interested in a reunion, but Shanahan clarified that while Jennings ultimately decided against the move, there was no ill will and a FaceTime conversation did occur.

Jennings, who led the 49ers in receiving yards last season, left for a contract with the Vikings that could be worth up to $13 million. He has reportedly sought a larger role in Minnesota, but his production has been limited to six catches on 10 targets in six games this season.

Shanahan also addressed rumors surrounding receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who has applied for reinstatement. The coach stated that while there are "no absolutes in life," he largely dismissed the possibility of Aiyuk playing for the 49ers again.

The 49ers continue to be active in assessing their roster, particularly at the wide receiver position, which has been impacted by injuries. Rookie De’Zhaun Stribling is still considered "probably over a month away" from returning. General Manager John Lynch and the front office are evaluating all options as the trade deadline approaches, looking not only at receivers but also at every other position on the team.
