The United Kingdom is set to experience its most significant solar eclipse since 1999 on August 12th. Experts are advising the public to find elevated locations with unobstructed views to the west to best witness this astronomical phenomenon.

Several areas across the West Country and Wales have been highlighted for optimal viewing. In Bristol, recommended sites include The Downs Sea Walls Viewpoint, Clifton with Bristol astronomers, Victoria Park, and Brandon Hill with Cabot Tower.

Wales offers viewing opportunities in Cardiff, the Gower Peninsula, Swansea, and Rest Bay Beach in Porthcawl. Wiltshire suggests Warminster Town Park, Cley Hill, Avebury Stone Circle, and Barbury Castle. For those in Gloucestershire, Cleeve Hill near Cheltenham, Robinswood Hill in Gloucester, and Chosen Hill are suggested.

Somerset locations include Wells Cathedral Green, Beckford Tower near Bath, and Little Solsbury Hill. Exmoor National Park, the Norman Lockyer Observatory in Sidmouth, and The Poltimore Inn in North Molton are recommended for Devon. The South West and Cornwall offer opportunities at Lowery Cross Car Park in Plymouth, Penzance, and Sennen near Land's End.

For the Isles of Scilly, St Mary's Island from Hugh Town, west-facing beaches, and the Community Observatory on St Martin's are advised. Astronomers recommend elevated locations with unobstructed views to the west to witness the eclipse safely.
