Rhino Siblings Markus and Mo Celebrate First Birthday at Cotswold Wildlife Park

Two white rhino calves, siblings Markus and Mo, have celebrated their first birthday at Cotswold Wildlife Park. The pair marked the occasion with a specially made cake composed of pellets, carrots, and salad leaves.

Markus and Mo were born at the park, located near Burford, within the last year. They each weighed approximately 70 kilograms (11 stone) at birth and have since grown to around 500 kilograms (78 stone) each. Their births increased the rhino population at the park to nine, marking the highest number of rhinos in its 56-year history.

White rhinos faced a critical situation in the early 1900s, with estimates suggesting fewer than 50 individuals remained in Africa. Although they are now the most numerous of the five rhino species, the park emphasizes that ongoing conservation efforts remain essential.
