South Korea's Danuri observatory has captured the first images of the fresh impact site on the moon's surface resulting from the collision of a SpaceX rocket segment. The Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) released these images, which show the aftermath of the event.
The images provide a before-and-after comparison of the lunar terrain. The "before" image was taken on October 1, 2015, while the "after" image was captured on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, showing a noticeable alteration to the surface where the rocket segment impacted.
This observation marks a significant development in lunar monitoring and debris tracking, offering visual confirmation of such orbital events. The data will aid in understanding the long-term effects of space debris on celestial bodies.
