NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, a significant new astronomical observatory, was launched into space on August 30 from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket, the roughly $4 billion project embarked on its mission to investigate profound questions in astrophysics and cosmology.

The telescope is designed to explore cosmic enigmas such as dark energy and dark matter. It will also test the principles of gravity at vast cosmic scales and search for exoplanets beyond our solar system. The Roman telescope is set to travel to an orbital destination known as Lagrange Point 2, located approximately one million miles (1.6 million km) from Earth.

The initial mission duration is planned for five years. However, NASA indicated that the telescope may possess sufficient fuel to extend its operations for an additional five years, potentially allowing for a decade of scientific discovery.
