Large, metallic spherical objects have washed ashore on a beach in North Queensland, Australia, prompting an investigation by the Australian Space Agency. Queensland Fire and Rescue initially warned the public to stay away from the unidentified items discovered at Forrest Beach.

The agency has since stated that the objects are believed to be pressure vessels from a space launch vehicle. "The recovered objects appear to be pressure vessels from a space launch vehicle," a spokesperson told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. "The Agency has identified the likely source — objects' location and characteristics are consistent with debris from a foreign rocket body that recently re-entered the atmosphere from orbit."

Officials are collaborating with international partners to ascertain the origin of the debris. The discovery comes amid an increase in global space launches, suggesting that more space debris may be expected to fall to Earth. The Australian Space Agency advises the public against touching or moving suspected space debris, urging them to contact emergency services if encountered.
