Jackie, a bald eagle whose life in Big Bear Valley, California, was followed by hundreds of thousands online, died Monday. The Ojai Raptor Center, where she had been under veterinary care for several weeks, announced her passing.

Jackie had been attacked by other eagles, leading to her admission to the Ojai Raptor Center. Veterinarians identified underlying health issues that contributed to anemia and weight loss. Despite intensive treatment and consultation with specialists, her condition continued to decline.

"Our team is heartbroken. It has been an extraordinary privilege to care for her," the Ojai Raptor Center stated. "We know this news will be deeply felt by the many thousands of people around the world who have followed her journey."

The Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam, operated by the nonprofit Friends of Big Bear Valley, provided a live view of Jackie and her mate, Shadow. The pair have been together since 2018, and Jackie had been a known presence in the area since hatching in 2012. The livestream garnered a significant following.

Jackie's remains have been transferred to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The Ojai Raptor Center indicated it is working with state and federal wildlife agencies to provide a more comprehensive statement detailing her treatment and test results.
