Jackie, a bald eagle who has garnered worldwide attention through a live nature stream, is in critical condition after being diagnosed with anemia. The eagle is currently under veterinary care at the Ojai Raptor Center.
Jackie and her mate, Shadow, have been subjects of a live camera feed operated by the nonprofit Friends of Big Bear Valley in California, known as the Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam. Millions of people have followed their lives through this stream.
While Jackie showed signs of improvement last week, her packed cell volume, a measure of red blood cells, has dropped to 13%, a decrease from the 17% recorded previously, indicating her condition remains serious.
