The Highland Wildlife Park has welcomed a new baby vicuña, the smallest member of the camel family. The cria is reportedly doing well and integrating into the existing herd.

The park, managed by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), has recently seen a notable increase in births across various species. Alongside the new vicuña, the RZSS has celebrated the arrival of two rare snow leopard cubs, as well as Himalayan monals and red deer. Edinburgh Zoo, also part of the RZSS, has welcomed a capybara named Bru, a giant armadillo named Snoot, and a sloth named Atty.

The vicuña herd at the Highland Wildlife Park now consists of seven individuals, including the new arrival, named Xoco. The other six members of the herd are Juanita, Ozzy, Austria, Kantu, and Tupac.

Vicunas are native to the Andes mountains in South America and are known for their fine wool. They are wild relatives of the llama and alpaca. The birth of the young vicuña marks another success for the conservation efforts at the RZSS wildlife parks.
