A significant fossilized whale skull, potentially dating back thousands of years, has been discovered on a beach in Islandmagee, Northern Ireland. The find was made by 10-year-old George during a walk with his parents at Portmuck Harbour.

George was exploring the shoreline for fossils when he noticed unusual patterns on a large object partially exposed in the earth. Initially thinking it might be a bone, he confirmed his suspicion with his father, who identified it as a fossil. Only the back of the skull was visible when George first spotted it; the beak, measuring about a foot long, was uncovered during the excavation.

The fossilized whale bone has been in the ground at Portmuck Beach for potentially millennia.

Whale fossils are rare finds, and this discovery offers a glimpse into the region's prehistoric marine life. The specific species and age of the whale are expected to be determined through further analysis by paleontologists. The discovery has generated excitement among local residents and researchers alike, highlighting the potential for significant paleontological finds in unexpected locations.
