The cast of the 1996 film adaptation of Roald Dahl's "Matilda" recently reunited to celebrate the movie's 30th anniversary.
Mara Wilson, who starred as the titular character Matilda Wormwood, has largely stepped away from acting but has returned as a voice actress in shows like "BoJack Horseman" and "Big Hero 6: The Series." Wilson, now 39, told The Guardian in 2016 that she found Hollywood's perception of young women shifted as she entered her teens, leading her to pursue a different path.
Danny DeVito, who directed and starred as Matilda's father, Harry Wormwood, continues an active career as an actor, producer, and filmmaker. The 81-year-old is set to appear in the upcoming "Jumanji: Open World." DeVito's real-life estranged wife, Rhea Perlman, who played Zinnia Wormwood, has also maintained a prolific career, recently appearing in the "Barbie" movie. Perlman, 78, has earned four Emmy Awards and seven Golden Globe nominations. Together, DeVito and Perlman founded the production company Jersey Films, which produced acclaimed films such as "Pulp Fiction" and "Erin Brockovich."
Embeth Davidtz, who portrayed the kind-hearted Miss Honey, has had an illustrious Hollywood career, with notable roles in "Schindler's List" and "Grey's Anatomy." Davidtz, 61, also made her directorial debut with the 2024 film adaptation of "Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight." She shared in an interview with The Independent that she battled breast cancer in 2013, undergoing a mastectomy.
Other cast members have pursued entirely different professional paths. Jacqueline Steiger, who played Amanda Thripp, now works in instructional design and runs her own business. Kiami Davael, who portrayed Lavender, earned a psychology degree and occasionally writes and sings. Jimmy Karz, remembered as Bruce Bogtrotter, transitioned from acting to pursue a career in medicine and graduated as a doctor in 2017.
Pam Ferris, who played the formidable Miss Trunchbull, is also recognized for her role as Sister Evangelina in "Call the Midwife" and Aunt Marge in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban."
