Suki Waterhouse has opened up about her past relationship with Bradley Cooper, describing it as a "disaster" and revealing that she experienced depression following their breakup.
Waterhouse, now engaged to Robert Pattinson and mother to their two-year-old daughter, dated Cooper from 2013 to 2015. She told The Sunday Times that her previous relationships had typically lasted two years and often ended poorly, leading her to be surprised by her current happiness.
"Maybe I was surprised because before I had only ever gone out with someone for two years and if it was two years it would have been a disaster at the end," Waterhouse said.
Following her split from Cooper, Waterhouse retreated to her London flat and experienced a period of feeling "stifled." This led her to consider leaving her modeling career. "I started feeling, like, I have to find a way out of here or I’m going to drown," she recalled. "I definitely do remember a time where I felt quite depressed, but I channelled that into writing."
In a February 2023 interview with The Sunday Times Style magazine, Waterhouse had previously referred to her breakup with Cooper as a "colossal heartbreak" that lasted for a significant period. She also spoke about the difficulty of enduring constant comparisons to Cooper's new partner at the time.
"You constantly read about how much more beautiful the new girlfriend is or whatever," she said. "That sounds silly, but when you're actually the one that's heartbroken, it's pretty rough."
Waterhouse released her debut album, "I Can't Let Go," in 2022, and often uses themes of past heartbreak in her music. She noted that her fiancé, Robert Pattinson, is unfazed by this, even finding it humorous. "He has a lot of humour about that kind of stuff. He couldn't really give a s**t. He's like, 'No one's better than me, so whatever'," she shared.
Waterhouse and Pattinson are planning a "massive" wedding at some point in the future, though current work commitments have postponed the details. She mentioned that it would not be an intimate affair when it eventually takes place.
