Selena Gomez has again expressed her desire to become a mother, sharing an image on her Instagram Story that featured her interacting with a baby, accompanied by the caption "One day." This sentiment comes years after Gomez revealed that she is unable to carry her own children due to lupus and other medical issues.
Gomez, 34, who is married to Benny Blanco, 38, has been open about the challenges she faces in carrying a pregnancy. In 2024, she disclosed to Vanity Fair that she "can't carry" children, explaining that medical complications would put both her life and the baby's at risk. She described this as something she had to "grieve for a while," as it differed from her initial vision of motherhood.
Despite these obstacles, Gomez remains determined to have a child. She has spoken about exploring alternatives such as surrogacy or adoption, viewing them as significant possibilities for her path to parenthood. "At the end of the day, I don't care. It'll be mine. It'll be my baby," she stated.
This recent post echoes earlier remarks. Less than two weeks after her marriage to Blanco in 2025, Gomez alluded to her parental aspirations while promoting the second season of "Wizards Beyond Waverly Place." She posted footage from the season finale, where her character, Alex Russo, becomes a mother, and commented, "Alex Russo is a mommy... hopefully one day that'll be me." She shared an emotional behind-the-scenes moment with Janice LeAnn Brown, who plays her on-screen daughter, Billie, noting that their on-screen relationship left both actresses in tears during a table read for the finale.
Gomez had previously shared her backup plan for motherhood, mentioning at a 2024 Time 100 event that she intended to adopt a child at age 35 if she hadn't met a partner. She reflected on her five years of being single before meeting Blanco, during which she came to terms with the possibility of being alone.
Benny Blanco has also expressed his eagerness to start a family with Gomez. In an interview last year on Howard Stern's SiriusXM show, Blanco called having a child with Gomez his "next goal," adding that he enjoys being around children as he has many godchildren and nephews.
