Russell Brand's wife, Laura Gallacher, intends to remain by his side and is planning to move back to the UK with their three children as the comedian begins a lengthy jail sentence. Friends have revealed that Gallacher believes her husband is innocent, despite his conviction for rape and sexual assault.
The couple, who relocated to Florida in 2024 following allegations made against Brand, are now set to permanently move to Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire, where they already own a home. Gallacher was reportedly present in court daily throughout the trial at Southwark Crown Court and was the only individual to defend Brand in person.
Friends have stated that Gallacher remains "resolutely loyal" to Brand. An insider told The Sun that she has been deeply affected by his convictions, with her "whole world has collapsed." However, some of Brand's close associates have expressed shock and a sense of betrayal as details of the allegations emerged during the trial, feeling "completely blindsided."
Brand was convicted of raping a 21-year-old fan he met in 2009, sexually assaulting an MTV worker in 2004, a Capital Radio worker in 2005, and a Channel 4 worker in 2009. He was acquitted of other charges, including rape and attempted indecent assault.
Gallacher, the daughter of Ryder Cup-winning golfer Bernard Gallacher, has largely stayed out of the public eye since their 2017 marriage. She has become more visible accompanying Brand on their Christian YouTube show, "Sunday Service," which launched five months ago. During their appearances on the podcast, Brand expressed his fear of prison, and Gallacher offered support, suggesting their faith would help them navigate difficult times.
Before his conviction, Brand had spoken of his happiness with Gallacher, whom he met in 2006. They married in 2017 near Henley-on-Thames. Brand also had a previous marriage to pop star Katy Perry, which ended in divorce after two years. He had a career in Hollywood, appearing in films such as "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and the "Despicable Me" franchise, before focusing on podcasting and spirituality in recent years. He embraced Christianity in 2024 and was baptized in the River Thames.
Brand was remanded into custody after being found guilty. Justice Bennathan acknowledged the hardship this would cause to his children, aged nine, eight, and three, but denied Brand's request for bail to explain the convictions to them, citing substantial grounds to fear he might not face his sentence.
