Russell Brand maintained that he had never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity as he faced allegations that led to his conviction for rape and sexual assault, according to newly released police video obtained by Fox News Digital. The footage shows Brand, alongside his attorney, speaking to London's Metropolitan Police in December 2023.
"As I’ve repeatedly stated publicly … I led a very promiscuous life in the past, which I’ve spent years openly denouncing. I’ve never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity," Brand stated in the interview. He criticized the media investigation that brought allegations to light in September 2023, describing the reporting as "defamatory and fictitious" and suggesting consensual encounters were later "invented or reimagined."
Brand told detectives that he did not recall the names of the complainants but acknowledged it was possible he had encountered them and engaged in consensual sexual activity. He also described kissing "hundreds of members of the public" during events and noted that he occasionally asked casual sexual partners to leave shortly after an encounter.
When pressed on specific allegations during the interview, Brand largely stated he had "nothing further to add" and did not intend to answer questions without sufficient time to consider the information. The video was released following a jury's decision to find Brand guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed to Fox News Digital that detectives are continuing to investigate rape allegations made by two additional women, with case files submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service. Brand faced three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of attempted indecent assault involving six women between 1999 and 2009 during his trial. He denied the charges throughout the proceedings.
During his trial, Brand acknowledged being "reckless" and using his fame to pursue sexual relationships but maintained that all encounters were consensual. He is due to be sentenced on Monday, November 9, at London's Southwark Crown Court.
