Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, will announce a substantial donation to BBC Children in Need on Tuesday during a visit to a community recording studio in Nottingham, organisers said.
The gift is aimed at supporting work that tackles violence and its effects on young people. It will be unveiled at the Community Recording Studio (CRS) in Nottingham, a charity that teaches film and video skills as well as music to children and young people.
Harry will arrive in London on Monday to attend the WellChild Awards, an event that honours seriously ill children and the professionals and families who support them. He has been patron of WellChild for 17 years and said in announcing his return, "I am always privileged to attend the WellChild Awards and meet the incredible children, families and professionals who inspire us all with their strength and spirit."
The Nottingham engagement is one of several that the duke is scheduled to carry out during the short visit to the United Kingdom. The visit has prompted public curiosity about whether he will meet members of the royal family in private; no meeting with the king has been confirmed.
Harry and his wife, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, live in the United States. He last travelled to the UK in April for a court hearing concerning the level of security protection provided to him while in Britain.
Children in Need is a long-established BBC charity that raises funds to support children and young people across the UK. The donation announced by the duke is intended to bolster programmes focused on reducing violence and addressing its impact on young people’s wellbeing and opportunities.
The Community Recording Studio in Nottingham offers creative training and production opportunities aimed at engaging young people through media and music. Organisers said Harry’s visit would highlight the role of arts and community projects in offering alternatives and support to those affected by violence.
Representatives for the duke and for the charities did not immediately provide further financial details ahead of the announcement. The WellChild Awards ceremony and the Nottingham event are scheduled to take place during the early part of the week, after Harry’s arrival in London on Monday.
