Phoebe Bridgers has achieved her first solo UK number one album on the Official Albums Chart while recovering in hospital from appendicitis.
The 32-year-old singer was admitted to the hospital on her birthday, August 19, just days after the release of her third studio album, "Lost Weekend." Bridgers shared a photo of herself in a hospital bed on Instagram, holding her number one trophy and captioned it, "Album is number one in the UK and I exploded."
Appendicitis is a condition where the appendix becomes inflamed, typically requiring surgical removal. Fans offered well wishes for a speedy recovery in the comments section of her post.
Prior to her hospitalization, Bridgers had been scheduled to perform in Kingston on August 19, Brighton on August 20, and Bristol on August 21. These three concerts have since been postponed, with rescheduled dates to be announced. Banquet Records in Kingston confirmed the cancellation of the August 19 show, stating that Bridgers was unwell and wishing her a full recovery.
"Lost Weekend," released on August 14, is the follow-up to Bridgers' 2022 album "Punisher," which reached number six in the UK charts. The new album features 16 tracks, including "The Outside," "Lost Boys," "The Governor's Waltz," and "Still Standing."
Bridgers recently spoke about her music hiatus, expressing that she missed creating music. "I kept booking studio time and then putting it off… and booking studio time and putting it off, and putting it off… I really wanted to be making something," she said. She described the process of creating "Lost Weekend" as taking a long time due to intermittent work periods.
Bridgers is also set to embark on her "Lost Tour" in support of the album, with the first show scheduled for September 14 in Indianapolis.
