Penelope Cruz Shines in Embellished Minidress at San Sebastian Film Festival

Penelope Cruz graced the red carpet at the San Sebastian International Film Festival on Saturday for the premiere of her new film, "The Invite." The 52-year-old actress sported a striking black embellished minidress paired with chunky platform heels and a matching clutch.

In "The Invite," Cruz plays Piña in the 2026 sex comedy-drama directed by Olivia Wilde. The film centers on an uptight couple, Joe (Seth Rogen) and Angela (Wilde), whose marriage is strained. They extend a dinner invitation to their charismatic and uninhibited upstairs neighbors, Piña and Hawk (Edward Norton).

Cruz has had a busy schedule, transitioning from the Venice Film Festival to Toronto. She also promoted two films that premiered at Cannes: the Spanish epic "La Bola Negra," directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, and Florian Zeller's "Bunker."

"Bunker," a psychological thriller, recently received a 15-and-a-half-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival, reportedly the longest of the festival that year and just shy of a recent record. In the film, Cruz and her husband Javier Bardem portray a married couple, Sofia and Miguel. Miguel, an architect, faces marital strain when he accepts a morally ambiguous project to build a survivalist bunker for a tech billionaire (Paul Dano), while Sofia begins working with an American novelist (Patrick Schwarzenegger).

"Bunker" has garnered rave reviews, including a four-star assessment from the Daily Mail's Brian Viner. This marks the ninth collaboration between Cruz and Bardem.

Meanwhile, actress Naomi Watts also attended the San Sebastian Film Festival, receiving the Donostia award. Watts, 57, wore a black satin gown and reflected on her career, describing her path as challenging and filled with rejection. She credited director David Lynch and her role in the 2001 film "Mulholland Drive" for changing her life and career trajectory.
