The second season of the Starz prequel series 'Outlander: Blood of My Blood' premiered with its first episode, "Remembrance Day," picking up the intertwined, time-traveling love stories of Brian and Ellen, and Henry and Julia.
Henry's 20th Century Struggle
The episode finds Henry Beauchamp in the 20th century, disoriented and institutionalized in the Inverness Lunatic Asylum. He identifies himself to Dr. Perryman as Henry Grant, his 1715 alias. The premiere reveals that Henry's attempt to send Julia through the stones at Craigh na Dun failed, likely due to the absence of required gemstones. This malfunction allowed Arch Bug to attack Henry, striking his head against the stones and stabbing him. Henry's subsequent accidental time travel, with Arch's jeweled knife still in him, left Julia and their infant son, William, behind.
Julia, to protect herself and her child, convinced Arch that Henry was deranged. However, this deception forced her to return to her 18th-century husband, Lord Lovat.
Brian and Ellen's Jacobite Conflict
Meanwhile, Jamie Fraser's parents, Brian and Ellen, are celebrating their honeymoon as the fiery crosses signaling the Jacobite war against the English appear. They express a desire for a peaceful life together after the conflict. However, Murtagh spots the approaching MacKenzies, who are searching for Ellen following her elopement. To protect Brian and Murtagh, Ellen agrees to return to her clan, with Brian reminding her of the handfasting rules that require their marriage within a year and a day.
Castle Leoch and Castle Leathers
At Castle Leoch, Uncle Mac, Colum, Dougal, and Ned Gowan discuss the death of Malcolm. With no witnesses, Ned Gowan suggests Malcolm died accidentally due to drunkenness after Ellen jilted him. Uncle Mac, though suspicious, prioritizes the impending war and agrees to a truce with the MacKenzies for the moment. However, in private, he vows revenge on the MacKenzies for Malcolm's death and seeks a clan <em>bladier</em> to secure his own succession.
Back at Castle Leathers, Julia is reunited with Brian's parents, Davina and Simon. Lord Lovat, under the influence of alcohol, makes unwanted advances toward Julia, fueled by a belief that Henry had raped her. Julia distracts him by focusing on the prophecy that their son will become king, urging him to prepare for battle.
Julia confides in Davina, whom she calls a faerie, revealing her time-traveling origins. Davina accepts this, but Julia is heartbroken about missing her daughter Claire's sixth birthday. She hopes Henry is with Claire.
