Matt Damon and David Letterman made a brief, uncredited appearance in the season four premiere of HBO's The Gilded Age on Sunday. The duo's cameo lasted approximately six seconds and occurred around the 8:33 mark of the episode.

Dressed in period-appropriate attire, including hats and styled facial hair, Damon and Letterman were seen strolling across a street in New York City. Damon sported dark gray sideburns and a mustache, while Letterman appeared with his own mustache and a full beard, accessorized with circular, slim-framed glasses. Their looks were completed with vintage clothing, with Damon in a white shirt, ascot, and long coat, and Letterman in an all-black ensemble. The scene was dialogue-free.

The cameo came about as plans were being made for Damon's upcoming appearance on Letterman's Netflix talk show, 'My Next Guest Needs No Introduction.' According to Isabel Richardson, the showrunner for Letterman's series, the idea emerged during research for Damon's interview. Learning that Damon began his career as a background actor, the production team pitched the concept to Letterman and Damon of them appearing as background actors together in The Gilded Age. Richardson told Vulture that Damon "unequivocally chose this idea as his favorite," describing it as the "silliest, most ridiculous idea."

Damon was recently seen with a clean-shaven look at the premiere of Ben Affleck's film 'Animals.' The latest season of The Gilded Age airs on Sundays and is available to stream on HBO.
