Lollapalooza's opening day in Chicago was marked by extreme heat that led to fans fainting during Lorde's performance and a last-minute schedule change for headliner Lil Uzi Vert. The festival, taking place from July 30 to August 2, issued warnings about the weather conditions.
During her set on Thursday, Lorde paused her performance multiple times to allow security to assist fans who had become unwell due to the high temperatures. "You look hot from up here," the singer reportedly told the audience. She later reflected on the experience in an Instagram post, describing the night as "crazy" and "very out of body."
On Friday, festival organizers announced that Lil Uzi Vert would no longer be performing "due to weather issues." However, hours later, the decision was reversed. The festival posted an update stating, "Surprise! Lil Uzi Vert will join Major Lazer on Perry's Stage tonight." Lil Uzi Vert also shared video on Instagram showing him en route to the festival.
In response to Lil Uzi Vert's initial cancellation, Swedish pop star Zara Larsson's performance was moved to an earlier time slot. Larsson later took to the stage in a bold fashion ensemble, including shorts that revealed statement underwear. Other performers on Friday included Suki Waterhouse, Finn Wolfhard, and Yungblud.
The festival organizers also alerted attendees to the possibility of intermittent rain throughout the day on Friday. Other scheduled headliners for Lollapalooza include Charli XCX, The Smashing Pumpkins, and The XX.
