Actress Linda Purl marked her 71st birthday recently, continuing a vibrant career that spans decades in television and film. Purl was seen out in Los Angeles during her birthday week, picking up groceries and a cake. The actress, known for her role as Fonzie's fiancée Ashley Pfister in the sitcom "Happy Days," also played Andy Griffith’s daughter on "Matlock" and a character who briefly dated Michael Scott on "The Office."
Ongoing Ventures
Beyond her acting roles, Purl has expanded into other creative and entrepreneurial endeavors. She recently released a new album, "From My Heart," featuring a collection of Great American Songbook classics and jazz tunes. Concurrently, she is starring in an off-Broadway one-woman play titled "Crazy Mama," currently running on 59th Street in Manhattan. The play is directed by her longtime friend and former "Happy Days" costar Anson Williams, who portrayed Potsie Weber.
Purl also discussed her sourdough bread company, which she started six years ago with her partner, actor Patrick Duffy. The business donates all profits to food scarcity efforts. Initially operating out of their garage, the venture partnered with Kroger stores about a year ago. This collaboration has significantly increased their charitable contributions, surpassing $200,000 in support for food scarcity initiatives. Purl mentioned they have now supplied their bread to over 2,300 Kroger store locations.
Career Milestones
Purl's time on "Happy Days" began during the show's second season, where she initially played Richie Cunningham's girlfriend. She later returned as Ashley Pfister, Fonzie's fiancée. Reflecting on her experience, Purl described the "Happy Days" set as a place of fun and camaraderie, noting that the regular cast members remained lifelong friends. She recalled the atmosphere on set as creating a "bubble" where troubles were left behind, leading to a sweet, light, and joyful environment that translated into the performances.
Purl has maintained an active acting career in recent years, with roles in "General Hospital," "The Bold and the Beautiful," and the independent film "Hollywood Grit," which she starred in alongside Duffy and Tyrese Gibson. She also recently starred in the film "Paul's Promise."
