Jennifer Finch, the bassist and vocalist for the iconic 1990s grunge band L7, has publicly shared a photo of her brain surgery scar as she battles a brain tumor. The 59-year-old musician's family and friends launched a GoFundMe campaign to support her extensive medical needs, which has quickly raised over $250,000.
Finch's bandmates announced her diagnosis on Instagram, revealing that she had to withdraw from the band's upcoming farewell tour, 'The Last Hurrah 2026.' According to their statement, Finch "requires extensive medical care, rehabilitation and professional in-home support" following multiple surgeries and serious complications.
The GoFundMe page, established by her loved ones, features a picture of Finch revealing a healing incision from one of her operations. The campaign has garnered significant support, exceeding its initial goal and nearing its updated target of $350,000. Funds raised are designated for home-care expenses, out-of-pocket medical costs, and legal fees. The page also notes a desire to "maintain Finch's legacy by creating an archive of her artistic and creative work."
Finch, a foundational member of L7 since 1986, was a key figure in the band's rise to prominence in the early to mid-1990s. The band, formed in Los Angeles in 1985, achieved significant success with hits like "Pretend We're Dead."
Finch departed L7 in 1996, citing health concerns, financial worries, and grief over personal losses, including her father and the band's roadie. After a period fronting her own punk band, The Shocker, she reunited with L7 in 2014. The band announced their final tour earlier this year, with Finch having been involved in its planning prior to her diagnosis. The remaining members will proceed with the American dates of the tour at Finch's request, prioritizing her health and well-being.
Finch also had a notable appearance in the 1994 music video for Hole's "Doll Parts," stepping in for bassist Kristen Pfaff. Her early career included time in Courtney Love's pre-fame band Sugar Babydoll in San Francisco in the 1980s. She also had a past romantic relationship with Dave Grohl, then the drummer for Nirvana, with whom she has remained friendly.
