Katy Perry found herself in a precarious situation during her headlining performance at Isle of MTV Malta on Wednesday when a crowd-surfing stunt with a giant inflatable water bottle took an unexpected turn. The singer was temporarily stranded inside the large prop as it was carried by thousands of fans.
While performing her hit song "I Kissed a Girl," Perry entered the inflatable bottle. The intention was for the bottle to be moved by the crowd towards a giant straw structure positioned near the stage. However, the stunt quickly devolved into chaos as fans began moving the bottle away from the stage, towards the back of the audience.
Fan videos circulating on social media captured Perry's pleas to the crowd. "Get me to that straw," she was heard yelling, pointing towards the stage installation. She attempted to redirect fans with her hands, but the bottle continued to drift away with her enclosed inside. "Come on, keep it going!" she pleaded. "Go back to the stage! Oh my God!"
Ultimately, the crowd managed to move the bottle back towards the stage, allowing Perry to continue her performance. "Thank you for getting me back," she told her fans as she concluded the song.
This is not the first time Perry has experienced mishaps during her concerts. During her "Lifetimes" tour last summer, the artist nearly fell from a flying prop while performing "Roar" in San Francisco. The mechanical butterfly machine she was on malfunctioned, causing alarm among the audience and Perry herself.
Earlier in her career, Perry also shared images of significant injuries sustained from her "Witness" tour in 2017, showing scraped and bloody knees from her choreography, humorously attributing it to a "slide on my knees moment."
