Jennifer Finch, the bassist and vocalist for the 1990s grunge band L7, has publicly revealed a photo of her brain surgery scar as she undergoes treatment for a brain tumor. The public announcement coincided with a surge in donations to a GoFundMe campaign established by her family and friends, which had raised over $250,000 toward a $350,000 goal by Tuesday afternoon.
Finch, 59, announced her diagnosis on Monday, leading her bandmates to confirm she would be unable to participate in the band's upcoming farewell tour, "The Last Hurrah 2026." In an Instagram statement, her bandmates explained that Finch requires "extensive medical care, rehabilitation and professional in-home support" following multiple surgeries and complications.
The GoFundMe page, linked by the band, features the photo of Finch displaying her healing surgical incision. The funds raised are intended to cover home-care expenses, enabling Finch to remain comfortable at home, as well as significant out-of-pocket medical expenses and legal fees already incurred. Loved ones also expressed a desire to "maintain Finch's legacy by creating an archive of her artistic and creative work."
Finch, a founding member of L7 since its formation in 1985, was a key figure in the Los Angeles-based band that rose to prominence in the early to mid-1990s. The group is known for hits such as "Pretend We're Dead." Finch departed L7 in 1996 but rejoined her bandmates when the group reformed in 2014. The band announced their final tour earlier this year, with plans to begin in October.
L7's Instagram post emphasized their commitment to Finch's well-being, stating, "We will honor her request while making her care and well-being our immediate priority. We love her, and we want her to feel the full strength of the community that has loved and supported her for so many years."
Finch's career began in San Francisco in the 1980s, where she was part of Courtney Love's early band Sugar Babydoll. She also made an appearance in Hole's 1994 music video for "Doll Parts." During the early 1990s, Finch was in a relationship with Dave Grohl, who was then the drummer for Nirvana.
