Great British Bake Off Contestant Left in Tears After Cake Disaster

The latest season of The Great British Bake Off kicked off with a dramatic mishap in its first episode, as contestant Molly watched her "perfectly baked" cake fall to the floor.

The incident occurred during the signature challenge, where bakers were tasked with recreating one of new judge Nigella Lawson's signature recipes: an iconic stout cake. As Molly removed her creation from the oven, the cake tin slipped, causing the bake to crash onto the floor.

Visibly upset, Molly expressed her dismay, saying, "I'm going to cry." Host Alison Hammond was seen comforting the distressed baker. Molly later explained to Hammond that she had been using only one oven glove, and the cake tin had caught on the oven shelf.

This season marks the debut of Nigella Lawson as a judge, joining returning judges Paul Hollywood and hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding. Lawson replaced Prue Leith, who stepped down after nine years on the show. Hosting duties for the spin-off, Extra Slice, have also changed, with Judi Love and Jon Richardson taking over from Jo Brand and Tom Allen.

Despite reports of potential tension between Lawson and Hollywood, the foursome appeared in good spirits ahead of the premiere. Hammond shared a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram, featuring herself, Hollywood, Fielding, and Lawson, with a caption expressing support for each other.

The series introduces 12 new bakers, including Clara, a marketing graduate; Connie, an NHS hospital discharge lead; Danni, who enjoys foraging for ingredients; Gabe, a drag performer; Gary, a retired garment technologist; Molly, an accessibility coordinator; Moyin, a political economy student and athlete; Mo, a law student; Nikki, an advertising post-producer; Shannon, a project planner; Tom, a hairdresser; and Yannis, a pediatric doctor.

The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4.
