Firerose, the 38-year-old ex-wife of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, has publicly detailed her marriage to the 65-year-old musician, calling it a "warzone" and issuing a warning to his current girlfriend, Elizabeth Hurley. In an interview with The Sun, Firerose, whose real name is Johanna Rose Hodge, alleged that Cyrus's behavior constituted emotional abuse.
Firerose claimed that after moving onto Cyrus's farm in 2020, their relationship soured following their marriage in 2023. She stated she felt like she was "walking on eggshells," alleging that Cyrus prevented her from seeing friends and didn't want her to have a car. "I could just look at him in a way he would perceive to be wrong and it would trigger his rage," Firerose told The Sun. "He would be screaming vile insults and verbally abusing me and calling me the most horrible things I’ve ever heard."
She added that Cyrus would shower her with affection the following day and that she tried to adapt herself to his perceived desires. Firerose also issued a direct warning to Hurley, stating, "I wish that every person who is being ensnared by a narcissist could save themselves, because I wouldn’t wish that on anybody."
Cyrus has previously denied Firerose's allegations of emotional abuse, with court documents indicating he claimed to be the one subjected to verbal abuse. The couple's split in May 2024 was contentious, with both parties making accusations of verbal and emotional abuse. Court documents revealed Firerose received no financial settlement from the divorce.
Firerose and Cyrus first met over a decade ago on the set of the Disney show "Hannah Montana," where Cyrus's daughter Miley starred. They reconnected during the COVID-19 pandemic. Cyrus filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences and "inappropriate marital conduct," later seeking a restraining order to prevent unauthorized use of his credit cards. His legal team stated he was "relieved to put this nightmare behind him," with Cyrus himself characterizing the situation as a "web of lies that put me in physical danger."
