Singer Ellie Goulding arrived in Venice, Italy, on Tuesday for the 83rd Venice Film Festival, showcasing a new red ink tattoo on her hand. Goulding, 39, arrived looking casual in a white T-shirt, black trousers, and a black Balenciaga baseball cap, sporting the fresh artwork that extends halfway up her arm.
The meaning behind the new tattoo has not yet been disclosed by the artist or Goulding, who already has a number of fine line tattoos. Earlier this year, a smaller portion of red ink was visible on her hand, suggesting this is a completed piece. Goulding previously got a red ink tattoo of the Tibetan mantra 'Om mani padme hum,' meaning 'jewel in the lotus,' on her left wrist, potentially by the same artist, Dr. Woo.
She also has a diamond-shaped tattoo on her ribcage, done by Dr. Woo in 2016 after she performed at Coachella.
Goulding gave birth to her daughter in March, and it is speculated that she may have completed the tattoo artwork after her child's arrival. She was seen stepping off a water taxi, appearing to be in good spirits.
The 83rd Venice Film Festival officially begins on Wednesday, with the premiere of Danny Boyle's drama "Ink," centered on media magnate Rupert Murdoch. The festival will conclude on September 12 with the Italian costume drama "Dio Ride" (God Laughs).
Maggie Gyllenhaal will preside over the main competition jury, joined by directors Kaouther Ben Hania, Xavier Giannoli, Shahrbanoo Sadat, and Johnnie To, composer Daniel Blumberg, and critic Francesco Casetti. Expected attendees include Noel and Liam Gallagher, Rooney and Kate Mara, Robert Pattinson, Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem, Pamela Anderson, Sam Rockwell, John Malkovich, Louis Garrel, Cho Yeo-jeong, and Ellen Burstyn, who will receive a lifetime achievement award.
The Gallagher brothers are scheduled to attend to promote their documentary "Oasis: Don't Look Back In Anger." George and Amal Clooney also made an early appearance. George Clooney is set to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the festival, mirroring a theme from his 2025 film "Jay Kelly."
