Acclaimed director Michael Mann was hospitalized after accidentally shooting himself at a Los Angeles gun range on Saturday. A representative for the 83-year-old filmmaker confirmed the incident, stating that a weapon discharged while holstered, resulting in a superficial injury.
Mann was reportedly treated at the scene and released. According to reports, the incident occurred around 4 p.m. local time. The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call of shots fired at the location and confirmed the shooting was accidental.
Mann, known for directing films such as "Heat," "Collateral," "Thief," and "Miami Vice," has been an experienced target shooter for decades, according to The Associated Press. His directorial career began in the 1960s, and he has since helmed numerous acclaimed movies, including "The Last of the Mohicans," "The Insider," "Ali," "Public Enemies," and "Ferrari." He also served as executive producer for the original "Miami Vice" television series before directing its 2006 film adaptation. Mann is currently developing "Heat 2," a follow-up to his 1995 crime drama.
