Courtney Love has shared details of a private and severe health crisis that left her hospitalized and believing she was near death. The singer, 62, described the period as one where her body "just exploded," leading to significant physical deterioration and frequent hospital stays.

During this period, Love experienced dramatic weight loss, dropping to approximately 100 pounds, and lost all of her hair. Despite being told she was going to die, Love stated she refused to believe the prognosis.

"When I was a kid — and I think this record is about this — I used to pattern interrupt the adults," Love said, explaining her mindset. "They’d tell me red was blue, and then I’d see blue, but blue was blue, so now that I gaslight myself that maybe they were right, and red was blue, and then I would see purple, and my head would explode."

She continued, "I never really lost my ability to see that… red was red. Despite them telling me that red was blue. And so, when they said ‘you’re going to die,’ I just didn’t believe them. And somehow, I got better. I’m healthy, which is amazing."

Love revealed that this intense period of illness, which began in 2019, directly influenced her long-awaited new album. She explained that she approached the record believing it might be her last.

"I wanted to give you an update on my record," she wrote in an Instagram caption. "When I made it, I believed this was my last record so I made the record I always wanted to make. I was in the hospital mostly but when I wasn’t all I did was write & record it."

The upcoming album will be Love's first studio release since Hole's 2010 album, "Nobody’s Daughter." She has expressed a desire to return to performing live, emphasizing the importance of music to her well-being.

Love stated that she kept her health struggles private and is now healthy, seeking patience from fans as she prepares to re-enter public life.
