Christina Aguilera Revives 'Dirrty'-Era Headscarf Style

Christina Aguilera recently embraced her Y2K fashion era by wearing a signature headscarf during a boat trip in Portofino, Italy. The singer, 45, paired the sparkling blue-and-white accessory with an all-white ensemble while spending time with her fiancé, Matthew Rutler.
The look evoked Aguilera's style from the early 2000s, a period when she was promoting her 2002 album "Stripped." During that time, she frequently incorporated headscarves into her public appearances, often pairing them with black extensions in her platinum blonde hair.
Aguilera recently spoke with Harper’s Bazaar about that era, stating she aimed to express herself "wholeheartedly and authentically" and to "have fun," without feeling "too boxed in or to play it safe." She described the "mix-and-match" hairstyle as an "introduction to dyeing [her] hair full black," a change she made in 2003.
She also reflected on the edgy style of her "Stripped" era, including her "Dirrty" music video, telling Cosmopolitan in 2018 that such looks would be "nothing now." Aguilera expressed hope that her bold fashion choices paved the way for women to embrace "any version of themselves they wanna be … and proud of it."
