Brett Goldstein, known for his role as Roy Kent in the Apple TV series "Ted Lasso," is featured on the cover of this month's Men's Health, where he discusses his physical fitness and mental health journey. Goldstein, 46, showcased his physique in a series of shirtless photos taken by a poolside, highlighting his "six-pack and bulging biceps."

In the interview, Goldstein detailed his past struggles with depression, recounting a therapeutic exercise where he was asked to list 10 daily gratitudes. He explained how this practice, initially challenging when feeling deeply depressed, gradually trained his brain to seek out the positive, transforming his outlook.

"I was depressed," Goldstein told the publication. "Every day she made me write a list of 10 things that happened that day that I was grateful for. In the beginning, when you're so, so depressed, it's like, 'Nothing.' But you have to put 10 in. 'The sun was up.' That's one. You start so small."

He added, "But by day 30 of doing that, you've started training your brain to look for the positive, and I could write a list of 100 things. I'm the luckiest guy in the world! Everything's f**king amazing!" Goldstein acknowledged that while he doesn't always achieve this positive outlook and still experiences darker days, gratitude remains a valuable tool.

Career Evolution

Goldstein's career predates his "Ted Lasso" fame, with a history in stand-up comedy and acting. He appeared in shows like "Derek," "Drifters," and "Uncle," and co-wrote and starred in the film "SuperBob." His role as the gruff AFC Richmond captain-turned-coach Roy Kent propelled him to wider recognition, earning him a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2021.

Despite initial reports that "Ted Lasso" would conclude after its third season, a fourth season has been confirmed. Goldstein expressed his belief that the show's world offered potential for further exploration, likening it to the expansive universe of "The Simpsons."

Goldstein was initially hired as a writer for "Ted Lasso" but later submitted an unsolicited audition tape for the role of Roy Kent, a character he felt he understood deeply. This led to his casting and subsequent accolades.

Most recently, Goldstein appeared in the Netflix comedy "Office Romance" alongside Jennifer Lopez. His early career included studying acting in New York after graduating from Warwick University with a degree in film studies. He also spent time working at a strip club owned by his father in Marbella, Spain, an experience that later inspired a stand-up show.

His television debut was in "The Bill" in 2009, followed by roles in "Uncle" and "Drifters." A significant early break came with his role as Tom in Ricky Gervais' "Derek" in 2013. Goldstein also wrote and starred in the 2015 superhero film "SuperBob" and appeared in "Doctor Who."

Recent Projects and Personal Life

In 2022, Goldstein signed a multi-year deal with Warner Bros. Television and made a brief appearance as Hercules in "Thor: Love and Thunder." He has amassed an estimated net worth of $5 million.

Goldstein's personal life is kept largely private. He confirmed his relationship with comedian Beth Rylance in 2021 during his Emmy acceptance speech, though reports later suggested they had separated.
