Bernie Williams to Join Broadway's 'Buena Vista Social Club'
The former Yankees star will perform as a guitarist in the musical's live band for a limited engagement.
Legendary New York Yankees center fielder Bernie Williams is set to make an appearance on Broadway, joining the cast of the Tony Award-winning musical “Buena Vista Social Club” as a guitarist. His limited five-week run will begin on October 22 and conclude on November 29 at the Schoenfeld Theatre.
Williams, 58, will not be acting in a traditional sense but will perform with the live production band during the show. He expressed excitement about the opportunity, noting that the music was a part of his childhood. “The opportunity to play that same music on Broadway in this show is truly a dream come true,” Williams stated.
Also appearing in the production is former Mets player and singer Jose Iglesias, who joined the cast earlier. The musical's run with Williams and Iglesias will feature them together until November 15. Gina Torres, known for her roles in “Suits” and “Firefly,” is also scheduled to join the cast as the lead character Omara starting October 13, performing alongside Iglesias and concluding her stint on November 29.
Tickets for performances featuring Williams and Iglesias are currently available. As of September 22, 2026, the lowest ticket prices found for shows with both performers were around $81, including fees, on Vivid Seats. Other performances at the Schoenfeld Theatre have tickets ranging from $82 to $137.
"Buena Vista Social Club" is described as a vibrant musical experience, set against the backdrop of a Cuban courtyard. The production features music rooted in Son Cubano and tells the story of musicians in 1958 Cuba. The show has been praised for its energetic performances, snappy dialogue, and engaging musical numbers, with the music itself being highlighted as the central star.
Beyond Williams's upcoming appearance, the musical features a cast that includes Natalie Venetia Belcon, who originated the role of Omara and won a Lucille Lortel Award. Other cast members include Isa Antonetti, Rick Negron, and Da’von T. Moody. Jose Iglesias's involvement follows his notable season with the Mets and the success of his song “OMG."
