Adam Sandler brought his family to the premiere of the upcoming Netflix film "Don't Say Good Luck" on Monday in New York. He was accompanied by his wife, Jackie Sandler, and their daughters, Sadie, 20, and Sunny, 17.
Sunny Sandler takes on the lead role of Sophie Birenbaum in the coming-of-age dramedy, with both Adam and Jackie Sandler serving as producers on the project. The film is scheduled to be released on Netflix on August 14.
Director Julia Hart described Sunny as the "first and only person" considered for the lead role, praising her performance. "I knew she was going to be great, but she absolutely exceeded all of my expectations as an actor, and also as a singer, a hard worker, and an amazing leader on set," Hart told Tudum. "Sunny is able to bring any emotion, anytime. It's remarkable. Her ability to tell different stories in the same scene was truly amazing."
Sunny expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, "I knew as soon as I heard about the idea that I loved it, believed in it, and wanted to do it. Then I met with Julia, and it really made me want to do it."
The film's synopsis describes Sophie Birenbaum as a student ready for the spotlight as the lead in her high school musical, who then finds herself navigating more drama at home than on stage.
Both Sadie and Sunny Sandler have pursued acting careers, appearing in numerous projects alongside their parents. They have had roles in at least 14 of Adam Sandler's films, including significant parts in the 2023 movie "You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah." Their earlier film credits include "You Don't Mess with the Zohan" (2008), "Hotel Transylvania" (2012), "Bedtime Stories" (2008), and "Pixels" (2015).
Jackie Sandler has also appeared in many of her husband's films. Adam Sandler's mother, Judy Sandler, has also made cameo appearances in several of his movies, including "Blended" (2014) and "Happy Gilmore two" (2025). Adam Sandler founded his production company, Happy Madison Productions, in 1999, which facilitates these family involvements in his film projects.
