United Airlines is significantly expanding its international offerings from Newark Liberty International Airport, adding direct flights to eight European cities starting in Spring 2027. This represents the largest route announcement of its kind in the airline's history.
New nonstop destinations from Newark will include Marseille, France; Valencia, Spain; Ibiza, Spain; Sardinia, Italy; Catania, Italy; Terceira, Azores; Luxembourg; and Ljubljana, Slovenia. The first of these new routes, Newark to Luxembourg, is scheduled to launch on May 2, 2027, with subsequent flights rolling out through June.
This expansion also includes new international routes from other United hubs, such as San Francisco to Okinawa, Japan; Washington, D.C. to Toulouse, France; Denver to Paris; Los Angeles to Osaka, Japan; and Washington, D.C. to Milan, Italy. United stated that it now flies to more destinations globally than any other airline.
The airline's announcement, made via an X video post, has generated considerable interest from travelers, with many expressing excitement on social media about the new travel options. Some commenters noted the convenience of the new routes for European travel, while others debated the choice of Newark as a primary expansion hub.
In addition to route expansions, United is also investing in premium travel experiences. The airline recently revealed a new Economy Plus seating option for its upcoming Airbus A321XLR jets, which will replace the middle seat with additional personal space and a shared table. These initiatives come as the airline reported record operating revenue of $59.1 billion in 2025, with a net income of $3.4 billion and a reduction in total debt to approximately $25 billion.
