Travelodge CEO Jo Boydell is stepping down from his position as the hotel group faces scrutiny over its security measures. The departure follows an independent review prompted by a sexual assault at one of the company's hotels in Maidenhead in December 2022.

In the incident, a man gained unauthorized access to a guest's room by falsely claiming to staff that he was staying there. The woman was subsequently sexually assaulted. Kyran Smith was later sentenced to seven years and six months in prison for the attack.

Ray Reidy has been appointed as the interim replacement for Boydell. "We remain focused on the safety and well-being of our guests and will continue taking the actions necessary to strengthen the business," Reidy stated.

The security issues and the assault were brought to light in March by the BBC.
