Toyota has announced an urgent recall for 16,996 Hilux Rogue pickup trucks manufactured between May 29, 2020, and April 8, 2024. The recall addresses a potential issue with the roller-shutter motors, which could malfunction, become stuck, and potentially overheat.
Owners of the affected vehicles are advised to bring their trucks to a Toyota dealership for inspection. Toyota Australia estimates that the inspection and repair process could take approximately 3.5 hours, though vehicles may need to be left for a longer duration depending on the dealer's schedule.
This marks the second recall for this specific issue, following a previous recall that involved 14,032 previous-generation HiLux Rogue models built between May 25, 2020, and November 11, 2023.
Affected owners can contact Toyota Australia's campaign hotline at 1800 987 366 between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays.
This recall is separate from another recall issued in April for 13,390 Toyota Hilux models from 2025-2026. That earlier recall was related to a technical issue affecting power steering assistance, which could be triggered by the installation of a Toyota Genuine bull bar or nudge bar combined with a light bar. The problem stemmed from an installation error in the electric power steering system, specifically a wrongly positioned ground terminal during accessory fitting.
