Red Lobster has reintroduced its "Endless Shrimp" promotion, a limited-time offer that contributed significantly to the company's financial struggles and eventual bankruptcy filing. The deal, which allows customers to order unlimited shrimp preparations, returned on August 17 at participating locations.

This marks a strategic shift for the seafood chain, which had previously made Endless Shrimp a permanent fixture on its menu in 2023. That decision proved costly, with the promotion blamed for approximately $11 million in operating losses in 2023 alone. The excessive popularity and associated costs of the deal were a major factor leading Red Lobster to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May 2024.

As part of its restructuring, Red Lobster closed roughly 130 restaurants and underwent a change in ownership. The company emerged from bankruptcy in 2024, with Damola Adamolekun taking over as CEO in August of that year.

Adamolekun stated that customer demand played a significant role in the decision to bring back Endless Shrimp. "Our guests were thrilled to have Endless Shrimp back this spring and made it clear they wanted more – so we listened," he said in a recent announcement. "We proved we could bring it back in a way that delights our guests and works for our restaurant teams and our business."

This iteration of the promotion differs from the previous one. It is offered for a limited time, rather than as a permanent menu item. Additionally, prices may vary by location, a departure from the $20 nationwide price that contributed to prior financial issues. Customers can select from five shrimp preparations, including returning favorites and a new Garlic Bread-Crusted Shrimp dish.

While the Endless Shrimp promotion was a significant factor, company officials have acknowledged that Red Lobster's financial difficulties were multifaceted, stemming from declining sales, rising costs, and issues related to ownership and business strategy.
