Prestige Brand Holdings is voluntarily recalling approximately 40,000 bottles of its Clear Eyes Maximum Itchy Eye Relief eye drops nationwide due to a potential contamination risk. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall, citing a "lack of assurance of sterility" in the affected product.
The recall specifically targets 39,060 bottles of the eye drops. The affected product can be identified by lot code 2552A and an expiration date of September 30, 2027. These bottles were distributed by Medtech Products Inc., a subsidiary of Prestige Consumer Healthcare.
The FDA has classified this recall as a Class II event. According to the agency, a Class II recall signifies a situation where the use of or exposure to a violative product may lead to temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences. The probability of serious adverse health consequences in such cases is considered remote.
Prestige Brands, a company portfolio that includes well-known brands such as Dramamine, Luden's, and Anacin, recently expanded its offerings. In June, the company acquired the Breathe Right nasal strip brand and other assets from Foundation Consumer Healthcare for approximately $1.05 billion.
