Netflix has implemented another round of price increases, marking the second such adjustment within a year. The company has raised the monthly cost for its most affordable plan, which includes advertisements, by approximately 33.4 percent. This change took effect for new customers on September 3, 2026.
Existing subscribers will receive an email notification within a month detailing the upcoming price adjustments. Netflix stated that the increases reflect ongoing investments in its content library and service quality. "We know members have never had more choices in entertainment, and we're committed to delivering an experience that meets and exceeds their expectations," a company spokesperson said.
The ad-supported standard plan now costs £7.99 per month, up from £5.99. The advert-free standard plan has seen a 7.7 percent increase, rising from £12.99 to £13.99 per month. The premium plan, which offers additional features such as streaming on more devices and extra member slots, is now priced at £20.99 per month, an increase of 10.5 percent from its previous £18.99 cost. The fee for adding an extra member to a subscription plan has also risen from £4.99 to £5.99 per month.
This follows a previous price adjustment in February, when Netflix cited a desire to "continue to invest in programming and deliver more value for our members." Upcoming releases and new commissions mentioned include "The Gentlemen 2," "Black Doves 2," "Pride And Prejudice," "The Unheard" starring Kate Winslet, and "Jonny Boy" starring Barry Keoghan.
Netflix reported revenues of $45.2 billion (£33.4 billion) in 2025, a 17 percent increase from the prior year, with an operating profit of $13.3 billion (£9.8 billion). The company has over 18 million subscribers in the UK and 325 million users globally as of earlier this year.
Max Beckett, a broadband and TV expert at Uswitch, advised customers to review their subscriptions. "The good news is that if you pay Netflix directly, you're not locked in," Beckett noted. He suggested downgrading to the ad-supported plan to save £6 a month, or canceling if the new prices do not justify the cost. Beckett also recommended considering free streaming services such as ITVX, Channel 4, and Tubi, and evaluating overall spending on streaming and broadband for potential bundle savings.
