Morrisons shed nearly 5,000 jobs in the year to October 2025 as the private equity-backed grocery chain contended with rising debt and a competitive market. The company's average monthly workforce declined from 101,144 to 96,232 employees, representing a reduction of 4,912 positions.

These staffing changes occurred as Morrisons, the UK's sixth-largest supermarket group, works through a turnaround program led by CEO Rami Baitieh. The company has been losing market share to rivals, particularly German discounters Aldi and Lidl.

Despite the operational adjustments, the retailer reported a 2.8 percent increase in revenue, reaching £15.7 billion. This growth was achieved even with a cyber incident shortly before Christmas 2024 that caused an IT systems outage and impacted product availability. However, the company recorded a net loss of £629 million for the period. Morrisons' debt also climbed to £7.52 billion, up from £7.07 billion in the previous year. The grocer is owned by the US private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice.
