McDonald's is bringing back its Spicy Chicken McNuggets for a limited time nationwide, beginning September 1. This marks another opportunity for customers to enjoy the popular menu item, which first debuted in 2020.

The Spicy Chicken McNuggets feature a tempura coating infused with aged cayenne and chili peppers. Alongside the nuggets, McDonald's will also offer its Mighty Hot Sauce, described as its hottest dipping sauce available at the time of its initial release in 2021. The sauce was later removed to make way for other specialty items.

Both the Spicy Chicken McNuggets and Mighty Hot Sauce are limited-edition offerings, and McDonald's has not announced plans for them to become permanent menu fixtures. The fast-food giant has reintroduced the spicy nuggets on multiple occasions since their initial launch, including in 2021, 2022, and the fall of 2023. In 2024, they were available regionally in select cities.

The return of the spicy nuggets is a response to sustained customer demand, with many fans expressing a desire for the item to be made permanent. Social media and fan forums have seen discussions and requests for the spicy variant to be a regular offering.

McDonald's has been making other menu adjustments, including enhancements to its value options earlier in the year, aiming to provide customers with more choice and flexibility. While McDonald's remains a highly profitable global chain, it was recently surpassed by Chinese chain Mixue Ice Cream & Tea in terms of store count.
