Chinese automotive manufacturer Jaecoo has upgraded its warranty policy across all its models, including the Jaecoo 7 SUV, which has gained traction in the UK market. The enhanced coverage, effective immediately for both new and existing customers, comes after revelations that not all major components were included in the initially advertised seven-year, 100,000-mile policy. This move impacts sister brands Chery, Lepas, and Omoda as well.
The Jaecoo 7, nicknamed the 'Temu Range Rover' for its resemblance to the Range Rover Velar and its more affordable price point starting under £30,000, has become a notable presence in the UK since its January 2025 launch. It ranks as the third best-selling new car this year, with 26,549 registrations between January and the end of July.
Concerns were raised when a closer examination of the warranty's terms and conditions revealed that certain significant parts, such as fuel pumps, starter motors, and air-conditioning compressors, were only covered for the first three years or 40,000 miles, not the full advertised period. This raised questions about potential unexpected repair costs for owners beyond that initial timeframe.
Lawrence Whittaker, chief executive of warranty provider Warrantywise, brought attention to these discrepancies in May after investigating an issue with an employee's Jaecoo 7. Reports also emerged of software glitches affecting infotainment systems, with screens going blank and controls becoming unresponsive. These issues, it was found, were also not fully covered under the original warranty terms for the entire seven-year period.
Chery UK has now clarified that all major components will indeed be covered for the full seven-year, 100,000-mile term. The list of components now included for the full duration encompasses air-conditioning compressors, alternators, brake calipers, catalytic converters, infotainment units, exhaust systems, fuel injectors, fuel pumps, oil pumps, shock absorbers, starter motors, track rod ends, water pumps, wheel bearings, and window regulators. Additionally, the warranty for suspension components has been improved. Bushes, rubber components, and ball joints are now covered for seven years or 60,000 miles, an extension from the previous three years or 40,000 miles.
Victor Zhang, managing director of Omoda & Jaecoo UK, stated that the changes reflect customer feedback and the company's commitment to providing a strong ownership experience in a competitive market. He emphasized that these enhancements demonstrate a long-term commitment to customers and confidence in the vehicles' quality and reliability.
Chinese car brands collectively represent over 15% of new car sales in Britain, with Chery Group vehicles accounting for approximately 6.4% of new registrations in 2026. Chery Group has also announced plans to manufacture vehicles for the UK market at Nissan's Sunderland factory and is establishing a new research and development center in Bedfordshire.
