Hugh Jackman is offering fans a chance to live rent-free for a month as his $40 million New York City apartment continues to be listed on the market. The actor, 57, has partnered with Bilt founder Ankur Jain for the company's "Rent Free" game show, which features celebrities participating in challenges to help members avoid rent payments.
Despite assisting others with their housing costs, Jackman's own opulent Manhattan residence has yet to attract a buyer. The "Wolverine" star initially listed the five-bedroom apartment for $40 million in March, less than a year after his divorce from Deborra-Lee Furness was finalized. Jackman and Furness purchased the property for $33 million in 2008, a price that, adjusted for inflation, exceeds $40 million today. The actor is aiming for a profit of several million dollars on the sale.
However, the property has faced difficulties in finding a buyer. The former couple had previously attempted to sell the apartment in June 2022 for $54.2 million, over $14 million more than its current asking price, but withdrew it from the market two months later. They then listed it for rent in September 2023 at $174,000 per month, around the time of their separation announcement.
The apartment was reportedly leased until December 2026, but it reappeared on the market on March 31. The listing for the property makes no mention of its famous former owners and offers "very limited showings" to potential buyers. Property records indicate the home is still registered to the limited liability company Jackman and Furness used for its 2008 purchase.
Located on Perry Street, the three-story residence is situated in a building designed by architect Richard Meier and is described as a "modernist masterpiece." The 11,000-square-foot triplex features a double-height living room with views of the Hudson River. The listing highlights its "striking minimalist design" and extensive entertaining spaces, including a recreation room, terrace, and a library that can serve as an additional guest bedroom.
In addition to his real estate endeavors, Jackman is preparing to host the Global Citizen Festival at Central Park's Great Lawn on September 26. The event is expected to draw approximately 60,000 attendees and aims to support global efforts to combat extreme poverty.
