Horizon Organic has initiated a voluntary recall of over 53,760 cases of its Shelf-Stable 1 percent Chocolate Milk due to a packaging flaw that can lead to premature spoilage. The recall affects eight-ounce cartons sold in 12- and 18-pack cases across the United States.
The company received consumer complaints about bloated cartons, which can indicate that the product has spoiled before its best-by date. Affected products may exhibit an unpleasant taste, odor, or texture. Horizon Organic is investigating the cause of the packaging issue and implementing measures to prevent recurrence.
The recalled 12-pack cases have UPC 742365002700 and include cartons with best-by dates ranging from January 28 to February 3, 2027. The impacted 18-pack cases, identified by UPC 742365208867, have best-by dates from January 31 to February 2, 2027.
Consumers who have purchased the affected chocolate milk are advised not to consume it and to discard it immediately. While no illnesses or hospitalizations have been reported in connection with this recall, the company emphasizes the importance of checking for the specific UPCs and best-by dates.
Customers with proof of purchase may be eligible for a refund. For further inquiries, consumers can contact Horizon Consumer Relations. Horizon Organic products are distributed through major retailers including Target, ACME, and Walmart.
