Fans of the late actress Hayden Panettiere have initiated a boycott against Neutrogena, vowing to cease purchasing the brand's products. This movement emerged after Panettiere's 2015 statement, detailed in her 2026 memoir "This Is Me: A Reckoning" and her appearance on Jay Shetty's podcast, "On Purpose," where she alleged the skincare company severed her contract after she disclosed her postpartum depression.
Panettiere stated in her memoir that her contract was canceled by Neutrogena shortly after she spoke publicly about her mental health issues on the morning television show "Live With Kelly and Michael." She described the contract termination as "another blow in a year that had given almost nothing else."
Following the resurgence of these claims after Panettiere's death on August 16, social media platforms have seen an outpouring of fan support. On Reddit, a comment expressing a commitment to never buy Neutrogena products again has garnered over 5,500 upvotes. Similar sentiments were posted on Threads, where users criticized Neutrogena's official account. A TikTok search for "Neutrogena boycott" shows over 70,000 videos with users calling for a ban on the brand's products.
While Neutrogena has not yet responded to requests for comment from The Post, the online backlash appears to be affecting its parent company, Kenvue Inc. Kenvue, which also owns brands like Tylenol and Band-Aid, experienced a stock price dip of over 2% on Monday, although it has since recovered some of its value. Google Trends indicates a more than 5,000% spike in searches for "Neutrogena boycott" over the past three days.
This situation occurs shortly after another controversy involving Neutrogena, where fans questioned the authenticity of brand ambassador Tate McRae's use of Neutrogena makeup wipes in a TikTok video.
